HOPE HAS A NAME.
GOD PROMISED in Genesis 3 THAT A SAVIOR WOULD COME TO BE THE GAP BETWEEN MAN AND GOD after the Fall.
Genesis 3:14-15 ESV “I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.”
680 YEARS BEFORE CHRIST WAS BORN, ISAIAH HAD PROPHESIED OF THIS COMING HOPE.
ISAIAH 7:14 “THEREFORE THE LORD HIMSELF WILL GIVE YOU A SIGN: THE VIRGIN WILL CONCEIVE AND GIVE BIRTH TO A SON, AND WILL CALL HIM IMMANUEL.
God wanted us to know that He is with us, so much so that He made it Jesus’ identity by giving Him the name Emmanuel, meaning “God with us”
How is Christ our Hope?
- Hope in the present: with Jesus being Immanuel, God with us. We are confident that he is for us and not against us.
This present hope isn’t overtaken by disappointment. It’s strong enough to withstand delays, confusion, and fear.
- It is an anchor of the soul, what Paul wrote in Hebrews 6:19
Hebrews 6:19-20
“We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever”
- Hope for the future:
- Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
- He has the blueprints of our lives. He has for us what the book of Lamentations says: “New mercies every day”
- —Lamentations 3:21-23 “But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
- We have so much to look forward to in Christ.
- The HOPE WE HAVE IN CHRIST, HAS PRODUCED THE ENDURANCE TO NOT LOOK TO THE THINGS OF THE PAST. But to look forward.
Romans 15:4 “For whatever was written in former days was written for our instruction, that through endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.”
No matter WHAT LIES AHEAD — we know that we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us.
We have hope for the future, knowing that:
- Philippians 3:20: “Our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.”
We have hope for the future, knowing that:
- Revelation 21:4: “And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away”.
