Have you ever thought for a moment the cost that it took for us to have freedom? Not only at Calvary, but the events leading up to it. From the time in Genesis all the way to His appearance; the genealogy and the mishaps along the way, but He still came. Lived a sinless perfect life so that you and I may be with Him again, just as He desires to see His children.
My question is: have you counted the cost that it will take to follow Him?
Luke 9:57-62
57: “ Now it happened as they journeyed on the road, that someone said to Him, “Lord, I will follow You wherever You go.”
- I’m sure Jesus had people all the time going up to Him telling Him that they are going to follow Him, until He tells them the cost that is involved.
- Have you counted the cost?
58: “And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.”
- Jesus lived a very simple life by faith, He was homeless trusting His Father for every need and without reserves of material resources. The nature of his mission kept him on the move and would keep his followers on the move.
- Is your lifestyle keeping you on the move?
- Are you content in your walk? Or desire to have more of Him?
59: “And He said unto another, follow Me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father.” [excuses]
- Number one reason why people don’t follow Christ. Excuses! He wanted to remain in his father’s house and care for him until the father died. This was obviously an indefinite period, which could drag on and on.
- “Choose you this day whom you will serve”
60: “Jesus said to Him, let the dead bury their dead.”
- Jesus wasn’t showing disrespect, but He knew the hour, and His time was short.
- Do we have the same outlook? Do we display the urgency or are we hiding the urgency?
61: “And another also said, Lord, I will follow You; but let me first go bid farewell, which are at home at my house.” [undecisive]
- A heart that is divided is not fit for the kingdom.
- He must become number 1
62: “ And Jesus said unto Him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the Kingdom of God.”
- When the going gets tough, will you go back? Will you look back?
- Keep your eyes on Him
In preparation for this message. The Lord had given me a vision of a plough that had been in a field for quite some time. Rust had taken effect and there was no trail of turned soil behind it. The farmer had walked away; given up. I’m sure there were rocks and deep roots that he once had to go over or go through. Even in life there are these moments where we push through. Not by ourselves but with the help of God. Are you undecisive? Are you making excuses of why your not following Christ? Choose today who you will serve. Sin has a cost, but Jesus took the fall. Put your hands onto the plough and hold on.
