We Have a God…

Do you ever have days when it feels like the World is sitting on top of you? When your mind is full of worry, doubt, and fear of what’s ahead?

King David faced faced much worry and fear:

  • Constant Fear & Threats: David faced persistent danger, including “terrors of death,” “horror,” and the noise of enemies seeking his life.
  • Betrayal & Family Conflict: He was betrayed by friends and faced profound trauma from his family, including his son Absalom’s rebellion and conspiracy.
  • Guilt and Personal Sin: After his adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah, David carried intense guilt, leading to a long period of spiritual and mental distress.
  • Leadership Pressures: As King, he faced the burden of leading a war-weary nation and, at times, wished to escape his responsibilities.

But through all of that turmoil he wrote in Psalm 68:19 “Blessed be the Lord, who daily bears us up, God is our salvation.” King David wrote that Psalm hundreds of years before Jesus’ Arrival. But even then, God was illustrating to people that His character was constant and He was trustworthy.

It’s important to note that God does “daily bears us up…”

God does not only “Bear us up…” He desires to “lift” us up.

Psalm 3:3 “But you, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”

He lifts us. He wants to lift what has fallen. He desires to lift our heads and for us to look to Him when we have no hope, when our hearts are heavy, when our minds is full of racing thoughts, He desires to lift our feeble hands, and most of all our burdens. Throughout David’s life, he had highs and he had lows, but David always knew whom to look to.

Psalm 121

1 “I lift up my eyes to the hills.
From where does my help come?

My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth.

3He will not let your foot be moved;
he who keeps you will not slumber.

God Sent His Son to bear our burdens.

In Luke 2, When the time came before Jesus was born, Mary and Joseph went to the city of Bethlehem. It’s important to understand how people traveled back then, it wasn’t by horses but primarily donkeys. Back in that time, donkeys represented humility, peace and service. Donkeys were used as beasts of burdens. And here we read that He who was in the womb of Mary, rode into town on a donkey. Symbolizing that “He came not to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” – Matt 20:28

Matt 11:28-30 Jesus demonstrated that he was the burden bearer who came to save us.

28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.”

We need to remind ourselves when the going gets tough to lay those weights at His feet! to “Cast all you cares on Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

We are not promised a carefree life, Jesus said that we “would have troubles, but take heart that He has overcome the world.” – John 16:33 If you haven’t asked Jesus for Him to be Lord of your life, you’re missing out!
