Are you giving God the praise that is due to Him?
Hebrews 13:15-16
“Through him Jesus Christ, then let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that acknowledge his name. Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”
The word “continually”, meaning as in every season, every part of life, we are to, without ceasing, give Him the praise that He deserves.
With every sacrifice comes with a cost.
In the old covenant, you would bring an animal to the High Priest for it to atone for one’s sin. The cost of bringing an animal, one that was spotless, healthy, and unblemished, would be an act of obedience and trust. Because that animal would have been dinner one night.
An animal isn’t required for atonement for sins anymore. Jesus was the ultimate sacrificial lamb. And because of that, we must bring God our praise, even when it doesn’t make sense. When you’re diagnosed with an illness or a loss of a loved one, we don’t have the answers to everything, and that’s what we need to understand is that we don’t have the answers for everything, but we do have a God whom we can trust in His Word.
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
How can we give thanks for all those things?
- When we give God a sacrifice of praise, it is saying to God, “Lord, I trust you.” I may not know what’s going on, but I’m taking you at your Word.”
It’s easier to complain, it’s easier to murmur, but know that your words have power!
Proverbs 18:21
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
