Decide to Abide – part 1

Jesus described that the only way to bear fruit is to abide in Him. It is not from our own doing but rather depending on Him, the True Vine. “As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me – John 15:4. We are the branches, sourcing our strength from the vine. In John 15:5 Jesus tells His disciples “For without Me you can do nothing.”

So where does one start? How do we begin to abide?

Surrender, Is not an easy thing to do but required to live this Christian life.

What does Surrendering mean?

An act, a lifestyle of yielding oneself fully to the will and authority of God. Giving up our ways to follow His ways, putting ourselves under His leadership.

How do we do this?

Decide everyday to abide.

John 15:4-8

4 Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.

5“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. 6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. 7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. 8 By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.

Abiding in Him is the act of surrendering.

At times we are led to believe that surrendering is a negative thing, that we’ve been defeated, we have lost. The enemy will always whisper that lie. Surrendering will bring you the greatest joy in life! Jesus Himself lived a life of continual surrender to the Father.  John 5:19 “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.”

Every day is a choice, an opportunity to abide in Him.

Let’s Pray

Father God, I offer you my life, heart, mind, body, soul, spirit, all my hopes, plans, and dreams. I give them all to you, Help me to be led by Your Spirit, to live a life of obedience of abiding by Your Word and Your ways, not mine. Help me to abide in You, in Jesus name, amen.
